Mummy Jee Free Boarding School
Bodhgaya, Bihar, India

About the school
Mummy Jee Free Boarding School was opened in 2015 in Bodhgaya for children from the most underprivileged families in the area. The school is free for all students and is entirely funded by donations collected by the Mummy Jee Educational Charitable Trust (NGO), a not-for-profit association registered in India. It operates as a boarding school to make sure students’ whole needs are taken care of, including food, sleep, or healthcare, in addition to education and sports. We currently have about 100 students in our Bodhgaya school.
The trust operates a second school in Ilra, a small village outside Bodhgaya. This is a day school, also completely free for all children, serving a very poor rural community. About 50 children attend this school every year.
Over the years, the MummyJee Educational Charitable Trust has helped educated hundreds of children, who then go on to build a better life for themselves. See our alumni page for a few examples of achievements from former students.
About the school founder and director
Dr. Jeanne Pere, known as “Mummy Jee” in Bodhgaya, was a retired teacher when she gave up her life in France in 2002 to move to India to help the poor children. MummyJee Free Boarding School is her second boarding school project in Bodhgaya. She believes passionately in the right of every child to be educated.
She has received many awards for her work. She received the “Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur” Award, the highest award given by France, on 07th May 2024.
